Forres’ fantastic light and sound spectacular, Colours of Cluny opened this evening (Wednesday, November 8) in a blaze of colour which is all set to light up northern skies for the duration of its 12-night run.
A glittering launch party, which was attended by sponsors, politicians, members of the local business community and volunteers, was held in the town’s historic Tolbooth ahead of the big switch-on, before guests walked the short distance to Grant Park for the first view of this year’s show.
The team behind the family-friendly spectacular – which is organised by the Forres Features Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit organisation where any surpluses are invested locally or in the following year’s event – has created a sound and light extravaganza inspired by the beautiful natural setting of Cluny Hill, Grant Park and Nelson’s Tower.
With advance ticket sales already soaring ahead of last year’s inaugural event, Colours of Cluny 2017 is set to attract thousands of visitors to the Moray area to enjoy the dazzling display which runs Wednesdays to Sundays from November 8-19.
Speaking at the launch party, committee member Lorraine Budge, on behalf of Forres Features Community Interest Company, thanked the community volunteers and supporters behind Colours of Cluny which is now in its second year.
Mrs Budge said: “Colours of Cluny is a team effort and I would like to thank the army of community volunteers, sponsors, local business people and our brilliant creative team, who have invested an enormous amount of time and expertise into making this year’s show even bigger and better.
“It’s phenomenal to see how much Colours of Cluny has evolved from last year’s inaugural event, and going forward we hope it will become one of Scotland’s – and the UK’s – must-see Autumn happenings.
“Advance ticket sales are already ahead of 2016, and we are delighted with the geographic spread of visitors we’ve achieved as well as the show attracting visitors of all ages. We know that the event has a very positive economic effect on local restaurants, hotels and accommodation providers during a traditionally quiet part of the year, which is all part of the aim behind this project.”
Demand for tickets is extremely high this year and Forres Features is urging people to book online to avoid disappointment.
Graham Murdoch, chairman of Forres Features Community Interest Company, added: “A limited number of tickets may be available each night, subject to availability. But these will be offered on a first-come first-served basis depending on how many slots are available after advance ticket-holders are admitted. The only way to ensure you get your preferred time and date is to book online to avoid disappointment.”
This year’s show features some dazzling visuals including a multitude of special effects and state-of-the-art lighting technologies. A new look fire pit (for toasting marshmallows), flame shooters, live performances and some truly mesmerizing UV special effects are also part of the interactive show which costs over £200,000 to stage.
